Petroleum Data Technology Program

Areas of Study - Degrees & Certificates  >  Energy, Manufacturing & Construction   > Petroleum Data Technology Program

Petroleum data technology is an information technology field of study that specializes in measuring, recording, or evaluating geological data, using sonic, electronic, electrical, seismic, or gravity-measuring instruments to prospect for oil or gas. Petroleum Technologists work at multiple oil & gas related office positions. They support geologists, geophysicists, reservoir engineers, drilling and petroleum engineers, subsea engineers or other related professionals in this field.

Graduates of this program are employed for positions that also include process design, data management, well operations and completions, environmental control, offshore and onshore rig operations, reservoir engineering, geological surveys, engineering sales, research and development, and drilling equipment manufacturing data management.

By completing the program, students will earn two awards:

  1. Petroleum Data Technology, Level 2 Certificate
  2. Petroleum Data Technology, AAS

Petroleum Data Technology, Level 2 Certificate

[C2_PDT2 certificate offered at LSC-CyFair and LSC-Tomball]

Students will learn about daily operations both at the rig and in the office while learning about different types of oil and gas data and how to manage and interpret that data. Students will also learn about the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors and how to apply data management techniques to all three.

Total Credit Hours Required for Certificate: 34

Level 2 Certificate Completed

Petroleum Data Technology, AAS

[AAS_PTRL degree offered at LSC-CyFair]

Students will learn about daily operations both at the rig and in the office while learning about different types of oil and gas data and how to manage and interpret that data. Students will learn about the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors and how to apply data management techniques to all three. Industry mentors will work with students on data management projects in order for them to gain exposure to real life work situations.

Prerequisite: Completion of Petroleum Data, Level 2 Certificate

Total Credit Hours Required for Degree: 60

AAS Completed
