AUMT 1407 - Automotive Electrical Systems 4 Credits (3 hrs. lec., 4 hrs. lab.) An overview of automotive electrical systems including topics in operational theory, testing, diagnosis, and repair of, charging and starting systems, and electrical accessories. Emphasis on electrical principles, schematic diagrams, and service publications. May be taught manufacturer specific. Prerequisite: None Course Outcomes 1 - Utilize safety procedures.
2 - Define basic electrical principles.
3 - Interpret wiring schematics and symbols.
4 - Explain operation of batteries, starting/charging systems, and automotive circuits.
5 - Use test equipment.
6 - Perform basic electrical repairs.
7 - NC3: Explain how DMMs are commonly used in various technical industries.
8 - NC3: Explain how Insulation Testers are commonly used in various technical industries.
9 - NC3: Explain the importance of high impedance in a DMM.
10 - NC3: Verify a meter is safe to use before operation.
11 - NC3: Demonstrate how to perform safe and accurate voltage measurements.
12 - NC3: Demonstrate how to perform safe and accurate resistance measurements.
