FIRS 1319 - Firefighter Certification IV

3 Credits (2 hrs. lec., 3 hrs. lab.) One in a series of courses in basic preparation for a new firefighter. Should be taken in conjunction with Firefighter Certification I, II, III, V, VI, and VII to satisfy the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) curriculum for Basic Structural Fire Suppression, Course #100. Prerequisite: None.
Course Outcomes
1 - Identify and safely use, maintain, and clean forcible entry tools.
2 - Describe the effects of proper ventilation, decisions to ventilate, and demonstrate methods of ventilation.
3 - Describe the purpose of salvage.
4 - Demonstrate various folds and rolls of covers, salvage throws, use of water catchalls, and various mop up procedures.
5 - Describe and identify safety precautions, dangerous building conditions, value of overhaul, and overhaul procedures.
6 - Demonstrate safe handling of debris.
