HPRS 2321 - Medical Law and Ethics for Health Professionals 3 Credits (3 hrs. lec.) Principles, procedures, and regulations governing the legal and ethical relationships among physicians, patients, and health care professionals. Includes current ethical issues related to the various healthcare professions and patient confidentiality. Prerequisite: College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing Course Outcomes 1 - Define general legal terms as they apply to the practice of medicine.
2 - Discuss the importance of the Patient’s Bill of Rights.
3 - Identify local, state, and federal standards and regulations for the control and use of health information.
4 - Demonstrate appropriate health information disclosure practices.
5 - Differentiate among traditional and contemporary views and principles of bioethics.
