SGNL 1401 - Beginning American Sign Language I 4 Credits (3 hrs. lec., 2 hrs. lab.) Manual and receptive proficiency on a basic level. Signed conversation, use of CD-ROM for visual training, basic principles of grammar, simple exercises, easy reading which includes cultural material. (1616035113) Prerequisite: None Course Outcomes 1 - Students will be able to recognize and appropriately produce the following: manual alphabet; questions that require yes/no response; questions opening w/ an interrogative; general location of objects and spatial placement; information relating to time.
2 - Count from one to one hundred.
3 - Understand commonly known myths related to deafness and deaf people.
4 - Students will understand the basic theory of ASL and deaf culture in America.
