PORT 1412 - Beginning Portuguese II 4 Credits (3 hrs. lec., 2 hrs.lab) This course is a continuation of PORT 1411 with continued development of basic Portuguese language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing within a cultural framework. Students acquire the vocabulary and grammatical structures necessary to communicate and comprehend at the high-beginner to low-intermediate level. (1609045113) Prerequisite: College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing; PORT 1411 Course Outcomes 1 - Engage in conversations using level-appropriate grammatical structures including narrating events that take place in the past.
2 - Understand level-appropriate spoken Portuguese produced by Portuguese speakers of diverse origins.
3 - Write simple and moderately complex sentences using level-appropriate grammatical structures and organize them into cohesive paragraphs.
4 - Read and comprehend level-appropriate authentic texts.
5 - Identify and discuss traditions, customs and values of the Portuguese-speaking world, and compare and contrast them with characteristics of their own culture.
