MUSI 1312 - Music Theory II 3 Credits (3 hrs. lec.) The study of analysis and writing of tonal melody and diatonic harmony, including all diatonic chords and seventh chords in root position and inversions, non-chord tones, and functional harmony. Introduction to more complex topics, such as modulation, may occur. Optional correlated study at the keyboard. (5009045126) Prerequisite: College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing; Corequisite: MUSI 1117 Course Outcomes 1. Construct and identify all triads and seventh chords in root position and inversions.
2. Properly utilize and identify all non-chord tones.
3. Analyze harmonic progressions, including secondary dominants, utilizing standard roman-numeral symbols.
4. Compose original harmonic progressions that properly utilize functional harmony.
5. Demonstrate on the keyboard musical concepts covered in class, including triads in inversions and progressions with non-chord tones.
6.Demonstrate an understanding of rhythmic meter and note duration through score analysis and composition.
