HUMA 1305 - Introduction to Mexican-American Studies Credit Hours: 3 Contact Hours - Lecture: 3 This interdisciplinary survey examines different cultural, artistic, economic, historical, political, and social aspects of the Mexican-American/Chicana/o communities. It also covers issues such as dispossession, immigration, transnationalism, and other topics that have shaped the Mexican-American experience. CIP Code: (0502035125) Prerequisite: College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing Student Learning Outcomes 1 - Analyze the developmental history, culture, and struggles for equality of Mexican-Americans/Chicanas/os. 2 - Articulate an informed personal response and critically analyze works by Mexican-Americans/Chicanas/os in the arts and humanities. 3 - Describe the impact of discrimination on the everyday life of Mexican-Americans/Chicanas/os in the context of social, political, and economic circumstances. 4 - Analyze minority group interactions in the United States focusing on immigration and migration patterns, assimilation processes, and adjustments to US-American life. 5 - Formulate an understanding of the shifting definitions of Mexican-American cultural identities.
