MATH 0308 - Introductory Algebra

Contact Hours - Lecture: 3 Lab: 1
Topics for all formats include basic algebraic operations, solving linear equations and inequalities, laws of integer exponents, factoring, rational expressions, the Cartesian coordinate system, graphing lines, finding equations of lines, solving linear systems, and rates, ratios and proportions; percentages. This course carries institutional credit but will not transfer and will not be used to meet degree requirements. CIP Code: (3201045119)
Prerequisite: Placement by testing; OR Concurrent Enrollment in MATH 0106
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Add, subtract, multiply, and divide polynomials. 2. Factor polynomials. 3. Simplify expressions using definitions and laws of integer exponents. 4. Sketch graphs of linear relations and determine a linear equation in two variables given pertinent information. 5. Solve linear equations and inequalities in one variable and compound inequalities in one variable. 6. Solve quadratic equations using the factoring method. 7. Solve systems of linear equations in two variables, including applications. 8. Use linear equations to solve applications. 9. Find the slope and x and y- intercepts of a linear relation. 10.Solve problems that require rates, ratios, percentages, and proportions using algebraic reasoning.
