NDTE 1410 - Liquid Penetrant/Magnetic Particle Testing

Credit Hours: 4
Contact Hours - Lecture: 2 Lab: 4
A theoretical study and practical application of the non-destructive testing techniques of penetrant and magnetic particle testing required by quality assurance and test personnel.
Prerequisite: None
Student Learning Outcomes
1 - Identify and select proper materials and equipment to perform a liquid penetrant test of a weldment. 2 - Interpret the results of a liquid penetrant test to ascertain acceptability of the weldment. 3 - Demonstrate knowledge of safety precautions relative to fire and toxic hazards. 4 - Identify and properly select equipment used in magnetic particle testing. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of magnetic particle, magnetic fields, current requirements for testing and demagnetization. 5 - Perform a magnetic particle examination on a weldment, following established procedures. 6 - Interpret the results of the above test to ascertain acceptability of the weldment.
