RADR 1409 - Introduction to Radiography and Patient Care Credit Hours: 4 Contact Hours - Lecture: 3 Lab: 2 An overview of the historical development of radiography, basic radiation protection, an introduction to medical terminology, ethical and legal issues for health care professionals, and an orientation to the profession and to the health care system. Patient assessment, infection control procedures, emergency and safety procedures, communication and patient interaction skills, and basic pharmacology are also included. Prerequisite: Admission to the program. Student Learning Outcomes 1 - Define basic medical terms. 2 - Identify ethical and legal standards. 3 - Explain basic radiation protection practices. 4 - Assess patient condition. 5 - Describe infection control procedures. 6 - Recognize and respond to emergency situations. 7 - Identify relevant pharmaceuticals and their applications. 8 - Describe basic medical equipment operations. 9 - Assess and report on their strengths, preferences, and college and career success attributes. 10 - Identify, describe, and utilize campus support services, systems, and student life opportunities. 11 - Use financial literacy knowledge and skills to create a personal money management plan for college success. 12 - Formulate educational and career goals and apply strategies to advance their goals and college performance. 13 - Create an academic plan and identify the requirements for successful completion of their academic plan. 14 - Establish collegial relationships with LSCS faculty, staff, and peers.
