SPAN 2311 - Intermediate Spanish I

This course stresses both oral and written exercises to increase vocabulary, expansion of grammatical principles and short themes written on a variety of topics. Selected readings are included to improve comprehension in Spanish. Students with prior language experience should take a placement exam to advance to the next level and receive credit. Prerequisite: SPAN 1412  or placement by exam; College Level Readiness in Reading AND Writing

1 - Comprehend authentic spoken discourse produced by Spanish speakers of diverse origins. 2 - Produce oral Spanish comprehensible to native speakers using complex grammatical structures to narrate, describe, and elicit and provide information. 3 - Demonstrate increasing comprehension and analysis of written texts in a variety of genres. 4 - Write authentic and original descriptions and narratives using complex grammatical structures. Demonstrate ability to formulate cohesive paragraphs and essays. 5 - Describe cultural practices and products of the Spanish-speaking world drawing on authentic materials including literature and the visual arts.
