NUCP 2301 - Radiation Protection I

Credit Hours: 3
Contact Hours - Lecture: 2 Lab: 4
Introduction to the field of radiation protection: the art and science of protecting human beings from injury by radiation. Topics include dose and exposure measurements and units, permissible exposure limits, and internal exposure evaluations.
Prerequisite: None.
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Express quantities in both conventional and Systems International (SI) (Metric) units. 2. Calculate the exposure rate at any distance from a point source. 3. Compute the dose equivalent rate in a neutron field of known flux and energy. 4. List the three basic principles of radiation safety that limits external dose. 5. Demonstrate proper use of survey meter. 6. Discuss ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle. 7. Identify radiation protection standards in 10 CFR20.
